It is said that the first impression is the best impression. You would be able to create a successful impression when you have a cover image that is well designed, attractive and conveys something of interest to your target audience. Creating a great cover image is a sure strategy to attract people and make them like or follow your Facebook page.
Let’s see how you can do this. The following describes what you need do to create a great cover image that would attract users:
1. Understand Your Audience
As a business, whatever you do is for your target audience. So, the first thing you need to do is to identify who your target audience is. When you design a cover image, you need to decide whom it would target. Would it target teens or youngsters or working people? After you determine who your target audience is, you can then create a cover that would appeal to a particular set of the target audience.
For example, if your target audience is, say, teens, then the cover you design must be jazzy and trendy. If you are targeting business executives, then the design must be professional and to the point. So, the audience helps decide your strategy. If you already have a page, you can use the insight option to get statistics about your current users. It will help you find out information like gender, location, language, age & other attributes of your target audience. This will be highly helpful in knowing who your major followers are.
2. Design a Cover as Per Guidelines
Before you actually go ahead and design the cover, you need to understand Facebook’s guidelines. Facebook is clear that you cannot use images that are deceptive and misleading. You cannot use photos that are someone else’s copyright. The image guidelines that you need to follow are:
- 820 pixels by 312 pixels is the dimension of the image for computers.
- For smartphones, it must be 640 pixels by 360 pixels.
- The minimum size must be 400 by 150 pixels.
- File size less than 100kb in SRGB jpg format is recommended for fast loading. If you use a logo, Facebook recommends png format.
Make sure you follow the guidelines not just to ensure it displays appropriately; but also to ensure your page doesn’t get suspended for not following the set guidelines.
3. Showcase an Offer
One way of attracting users is to design a cover image that highlights a deal your business is offering. Try to create a special deal for your Facebook fans. This would help in conveying a personal touch. The cover page must highlight your brand, the product you offer, why someone should use your product and the special discount or offer that you are providing. This would definitely attract users to your page.
You can even give a special promo code or a link that users can click. The advantage of doing this is you can find out how many customers you have from Facebook. It also helps to evaluate how successful your offer has been.
4. Offer a Free Event
Offer a free event, this could be an online webinar, a podcast, or hangout. You can offer something of value for your target audience through this. This is a good way to promote your services through Facebook. The same guidelines recommended above can be followed to keep track of all those who used your service.
5. Promote Your Brand
Don’t forget to promote your brand on the cover image. Highlight your logo and brand name. You can even create a picture collage with all your products and offerings. This is an attractive way of promoting your brand online. Things to keep in mind are:
- Avoid too much of text
